omg Photo by @hannahreyesmorales | Jessica Catiis, a Filipino domestic worker, died on July 4, 2017, in Saudi Arabia. Her remains, covered with just a loin cloth in a wooden box, were not returned to the Philippines until seven months later. Her family put her to rest in a beautiful ceremony, with her remains transported by a horse-drawn carriage. The whole barrio came and wept for their girl, who was said to be "full of dreams" and "always smiling." They were told she had committed suicide, though she had just been talking excitedly about applying for work in Taiwan days before. They have received none of her belongings. They sent her off with yellow flowers. One in ten Filipinos work abroad. Read more about the Filipino Diaspora in the December issue. #Family #love #FilipinoDiaspora

omg Photo by @michaelchristopherbrown | Jewish men pray at the Western Wall, an ancient limestone wall in the Old City of Jerusalem. I learned during a special tour of underground tunnels, arches and passageways which wind beneath the Muslim Quarter, that the original Wall stretches significantly further than what is seen by most visitors. Considered holy due to its connection to the Temple Mount, the holiest site in the Jewish faith lying just behind it, the Wall is the holiest place where Jews are permitted to pray. For Muslims, the Wall is the site where the Prophet Muhammed tied his steed on his night journey to Jerusalem before ascending to paradise, and constitutes the Western border of Haram ash-Sharif, the Noble Sactuary, which includes the al-Aqsa Mosque and Dome of the Rock. omg Photo by Stephen Alvarez @salvarezphoto | Majalis al Jinn is one of the most spectacular places I have ever seen. It is an 11 acre cave room in the Sultanate of Oman. I shot this image in August of a shaft of light illuminating the room. Access is by way of a 600 foot drop down the middle of the cavern. Shot on assignment for @natgeo #oman #majalisaljinn

omg Photo by Michael Yamashita @yamashitaphoto | Great Wall of China at Jinshanling: It was once known as the Wild Wall as it stood unrestored from the time it was rebuilt in the 16th century. Nothing wild about it now, as much of it has been completely repaired and surrounded by tourist shops. Even a cable car stands ready to whisk you to the top. The hard part used to be climbing to the best locations for sunrise or sunset. Now it's finding an angle to keep the hundreds of visitors out of your frame. #greatwall #jinshanling #wildwall #mingdynasty #Hebei

omg Photo by @paulnicklen | King penguins assess the congestion of early morning traffic as they head to sea to get food for their chicks. Tens of thousands of elephant seals line the beaches of South Georgia as they have arrived to give birth to their pups. Less than a hundred years ago, elephant seal populations on South Georgia, Antarctica were nearly wiped out by our greed and mismanagement of wildlife populations. Their numbers are rebounding to near historic numbers. Please #followme on @paulnicklen to see the pots that were used to boil the fat off of elephant seals. #antarctica #penguin #elephant #seals #patternsofnature

omg Photo by @BrianSkerry | Researcher Enric Sala hovers over a giant, circular-shaped colony of coral at Kingman Reef in the central, South Pacific Ocean. This coralspecies was a discovery and was new to science. It is believed that this coral colony was more than 500-years old. Because of its remoteness, Kingman has remained relatively unspoiled and diving here is like traveling back in time. The reef community is vibrant and functioning as nature intended. To learn more about marine wildlife, follow @BrianSkerry

omg Photo by @dguttenfelder | Photo shot #onassignment for a story on palm oil published in the December 2018 issue of @natgeo. After harvesters cut bunches of fruit from oil palm trees on the Mouila plantation in Gabon, loaders toss the bunches, which can weigh up to 50 pounds each, into trucks that deliver them to the on-site mill for processing into crude palm oil.

omg Photo by @Paulnicklen | This photograph of the ever mysterious, shy, and elusive narwhal was taken while on assignment for @natgeo. Hundreds of narwhals jockey for position to catch a breath of air during a massive feeding frenzy on polar cod. Since I was a kid growing up in the Canadian Arctic, I have always been fascinated by these true unicorns of the sea. It took eight years of going back year after year to the far Canadian Arctic to finally realize this moment. This image, along with 178 others, appears in my new massive fine-art book called "Born To Ice." I can’t wait to share this journey through light, time, and ice with you. #followme on @paulnicklen to learn more about my love affair with the polar regions. #gratitude #narwhal #love #beauty #instagood #fineartwithpurpose

omg Photo by Aaron Huey @argonautphoto | This is one of hundreds of blue pools that expose deep, water-filled ice caves and tunnels on the lower Ruth Glacier in Alaska. The light and color was so surreal that it felt like we were walking through a painting for the three days we spent there. Shot on assignment for a @natgeo story on #DenaliNationalPark. To see more images from Denali and the Ruth Glacier follow @argonautphoto.

omg Photo by @CristinaMittermeier | With a backdrop of crashing waves, this black-browed albatross pair joins thousands of other couples settling into their ocean-side nests. Albatross pairs will mate for life, and Steeple Jason Island provides a safe and secluded landscape to build a mud nest that the couple returns to year after year. This scene may look peaceful, but it is anything but quiet. The air is filled with the midday chatter of the 200,000 pairs that inhabit this island, making it home to the largest albatross colony in the world. #albatross #ocean #love #photography

omg Photo by @PaulNicklen | Observing a spirit bear is a rarity, and I thought I was lucky years ago when I first encountered this lovely female. So it was absolutely incredible to return to the Great Bear Rainforest years later and have the same spirit bear grace me with her company. As she fished for her dinner, I was reminded that her enduring presence is a testament to the importance of ecosystem protection, as it allows beautiful places like this the chance to grow and thrive. #FollowMe at @PaulNicklen and explore my feed to find more photos of the spirit bear, as well as black bears, brown bears, and polar bears. #SpiritBear #BritishColumbia #salmon #photography
